Cop claims trial to accepting RM1,500 bribe

A POLICE sergeant claimed trial at the Alor Star Sessions Court to a charge of accepting a bribe of RM1,500 in 2020.

According to the charge, Muhamad Fitry Ismail, 32, was accused of having accepted a bribe from a man after not taking any action against the individual under section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, outside the main gate of the Kubang Pasu district police headquarters at 11.34pm, on November 18, 2020.

He is charged under section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 (Act 694), which carries a jail term not exceeding 20 years and a fine not less than five times the amount of the bribe, or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

The accused was allowed bail of RM8,000 in one surety, with March 6 set for mention. – Bernama, January 24, 2023.
