THE Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) in Selangor is conducting a search to locate an elderly man believed to have fallen into sea at the Tanjung Sepat Public Jetty, Kuala Langat, yesterday.
MMEA director V. Siva Kumar said the operation, which is in its second day, was coordinated by the Johor Baru Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre (MRSC), at 7am today.
He said the operation is assisted by the Fire and Rescue Department, the Civil Defence Force and the local fishing community.
Siva Kumar said the search operation for the victim was activated at 7.30pm yesterday via a Perkasa 36 boat.
“The Selangor MMEA set up the Carilamat Forward Base at Tanjung Sepat Public Maritime Jetty, Kuala Langat today.
“It also sent help to the ground to monitor the location of the incident on the coast of Tanjung Sepat,” he said in a statement today.
The victim, S. Muniandy, 63, is believed to have fallen into sea after the victim’s son found the motorcycle, sarong and slippers belonging to the victim at the jetty around 11am on January 20.
Siva Kumar said the victim, who worked as a palm oil weigher, was last seen wearing a light blue shirt and brown shorts before he was reported missing at the jetty.
“The public can contact the Selangor Maritime Operations Centre at 03-3176 0627 or MERS (Malaysian Emergency Response Services) at 999 to lodge complaints, channel information, or in cases of emergency for immediate response,” he said. – Bernama, January 22, 2023.
