PARTI Bersatu Sabah’s (PBS) supreme council meeting in Kota Kinabalu today voted unanimously for Maximus Ongkili to continue as its president.

Thanking the members for their continuous support and trust, Ongkili said it would buy the party time to find a capable successor.

“Although I have announced that I will step down by the next (PBS) election year, the supreme council members have voted for me to stay,” he said in a statement tonight.

“This will provide PBS ample time to identify my successor.”

Ongkili, who won the top post unopposed in the party elections last June, said PBS has many young leaders who are capable of building and taking the party to greater heights.

The former Kota Marudu MP had announced at the annual PBS delegates convention last June that he would step down as party president in three years. – Bernama, January 20, 2023.
