TOUCH ‘n Go will be asked to provide an explanation about its new Visa card today, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Salahuddin Ayub said.

The minister’s comments come after complaints from users on the new payment system’s limitations, which include the company’s admission that the Visa card cannot be used to pay for highway tolls and or on public transport.

“I have received many complaints regarding this matter and I have informed the enforcement division to look into this issue seriously.

“They will call Touch ‘n Go to attend, and the company must give an explanation,” he said in a statement on Twitter.

Yesterday, TNG admitted that the new card with the Visa payment system cannot be used for toll payments and public transport fares.

Media reports yesterday said that TNG confirmed the problem was related to the integration of the Visa Paywave facility with NFC technology.

Users have complained that it is inconvenient to have to carry two cards in order to use Touch ‘n Go’s e-wallet.

The Visa prepaid card, tied to the company’s e-wallet, allows users to make online and offline payments.

According to Touch ‘n Go, the card acts as a complementary payment channel to its e-wallet, allowing users to make payments even if the merchant doesn’t have a DuitNow QR code. – January 20, 2023.
