THE Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a continuous rain warning in Johor, Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu until Sunday.
In a statement issued at 2.30pm today, it also warned that thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected to occur in the interior and west of the peninsula, central and western Sarawak and Sabah in the afternoon and early evening during that period.
“Based on the analysis of weather models, the monsoon surge occurring in the country is expected to last until January 25 and this situation has the potential to bring continuous rain in the east of the peninsula during that period,” it said.
The public is advised to always refer to the department’s website and social media as well as download the myCuaca app for the latest and verified information.
The department also issued a strong wind warning for shipping, with third-category level rough seas forecast until January 25.
“Strong northeasterly winds exceeding 60kph with waves of over 4.5m high are expected in the waters north of Condor,” it said.
“The strong winds and rough seas are dangerous to all coastal and shipping activities, including workers on oil rigs.” – Bernama, January 19, 2023.
