Duo nabbed for slashing restaurant waiter

TWO local men aged 44 and 47 were arrested early yesterday on suspicion of slashing a restaurant waiter in Cheras on Tuesday morning.

Kajang district police chief Mohd Zaid Hassan said that in the 9.25 am incident at a restaurant in Taman Segar Perdana, the 46-year-old waiter suffered a fractured bone in his left index finger and injuries on his right knee as a result of being slashed by the two suspects.

Police said one of the assailants was upset and made noise when the drink he ordered was served late, after which the victim reprimanded him.

“The suspect was chased out of the restaurant but returned later with another friend armed with machetes and attacked the victim,” he said in a statement today.

He said the two men were arrested at 3am yesterday in Taman Cheras Permata, Kajang. Police also seized two machetes and the clothes they had worn during the incident, adding that one of the urine tests returned positive for drugs.

He added that both men would be remanded until Sunday to assist in the investigations under section 326 of the penal code for causing grievous hurt with a weapon.

An 80-second video clip from a closed-circuit television camera had previously gone viral, showing two machete-wielding individuals attacking the restaurant waiter while other customers were having their meals. – Bernama, January 19, 2023.
