Islamic councils to avoid involvement in ‘Allah’ appeal

THREE Islamic religious bodies have chosen not to get involved in the government’s appeal over the usage of the word “Allah” by non-Muslims, Malaysiakini reported today.  

The Selangor Islamic Religious Council, the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council and the Kedah state religious council withdrew their intervener application in the case involving Melanau Christian Jill Ireland.  

The religious councils had earlier put in their bid to be part of the government’s appeal against the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s decision allowing Ireland’s judicial review that sought the right to use the word “Allah” for educational and religious purposes. – January 19, 2023.
