NO one will be left out in the “Malaysia Madani” concept, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said today.

He said although Malays make up the majority of the country’s population, the minorities will not be sidelined, including those of Sabah and Sarawak.

“We must be aware that there are minority communities in our country, whether Chinese or Indian, who feel as if there is an approach to marginalise or degrade them.

“I want to assure that the unity government will not allow this to happen, even to Sabah and Sarawak,” Anwar said at the launch of the ‘Malaysia Madani’ tagline intended to guide the country forward.

Madani is the Malay acronym for Sustainability, Care and Compassion, Respect, Innovation, Prosperity, and Trust.

The Madani concept reflects the trust forged between the government and the people on the basis of transparency and cooperation.

Anwar said that he does not want the country to develop at the expense of some groups being left behind.

“Our responsibility in carrying this ‘Madani’ theme is to embrace all everyone’s strengths.

“If there are those who are marginalised, even among the Malay majority or Bumiputera, then it is our responsibility to try our best to bring them out and liberate them from poverty.

“Liberating does not mean giving them help so that they can depend on government contributions – that we call the ‘dependency syndrome’.

“Our approach should free them from these shackles completely,” he said.

Anwar also said Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof had been given the latitude and freedom to resolve all pending matters regarding the Malaysia Agreement 1963 to ensure the interests of the people in Sabah and Sarawak are protected. – January 19, 2023.
