ALL vehicles will be exempt from paying toll on January 20 and 21 ahead of the Chinese New Year celebrations, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced today.

“Works Minister (Alexander Nanta Linggi) and Transport Minister (Anthony Loke) took the initiative to discuss with toll concessionaires and agreed to set no tolls (for the said period),” Anwar said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.

He said the decision was made as many people will be travelling home for the long holiday.

Anwar also urged all road users to drive carefully and safely, and comply with traffic rules.

“We want to avoid the number of accidents that actively increase every festive season,” he said.

Yesterday, Nanta said some 3.8 million vehicles are expected to use the expressways during the Chinese New Year holiday, starting this weekend.
