350 new Covid cases, 5 deaths

THE Health Ministry reported 350 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, taking the cumulative number of infections in Malaysia to 5,033,254.

The death toll rose to 36,919 after five deaths were reported – two in Kuala Lumpur and one each in Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Johor.

Selangor logged the bulk of the new cases with128, Kuala Lumpur (81), Johor (20), Malacca (19), Perak (19), Sarawak (18), Kedah (14), Terengganu (10), Negri Sembilan (8), Sabah (8), Penang (7), Kelantan (5), Pahang (5), Putrajaya (4), Labuan (2) and Perlis (2).

Active cases dropped to 10,327 after 349 patients recovered from the illness.

Among the active infections, 9,901 people (95.9%) were in home quarantine and 426 (4.1%) in hospital.

Sixteen patients were in intensive care, eight of whom required respiratory assistance. – January 18, 2023.
