SIX states that will be holding their elections this year need to discuss suitable dates to dissolve their respective state legislative assemblies.

Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun said he, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, and Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow are in talks to meet with the leaders of Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu on the matter.

“We are discussing meeting our counterparts in Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah to decide the dates.

“Then we will inform and discuss with the Election Commission about the suitable dates to hold the elections so there is no overlap,” he told reporters in Seremban today.

Aminuddin, who is Negri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan chairman, agreed with Chow that June is the best time to hold the state polls.

“If we dissolve (the state assemblies) in May, the people go to the polls in June. So I share the same view with him that the elections can be held around that time. This is also to give other parties the opportunity to prepare and hold their election campaigns,” he said.

Yesterday, Aminuddin said the Negri Sembilan assembly is expected to be dissolved in May to give way for the state polls. – Bernama, January 17, 2023.
