TERENGGANU Umno is appealing the results for three seats it lost to Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the general election (GE), state chapter chairman Ahmad Said said.

The chapter had initially planned to file petitions for the results in all eight of the state’s parliamentary constituencies, but a lack of witnesses forced it to file for review in only three seats, he said.

He said the chapter has filed three petitions at the High Court over the GE results for the Kuala Terengganu, Kemaman and Marang parliamentary seats.

He said this was based on clear evidence from witnesses who said they were paid by PAS to vote for PN.

“If you go by claims of vote-buying, this happened in eight constituencies in Terengganu, but up to now we only have witnesses for three.

“Many claimed it happened but when we called for witnesses to come to court they didn’t want to. We have not been able to get the witnesses, that is why we are only appealing for three parliamentary seats,” he said today during a press conference at Umno World Trade Centre headquarters.

He said for the three seats, the party has 20 witnesses willing to testify.

The three petitions were filed at the High Court in Kuala Terengganu on January 3.

The Kuala Terengganu seat was won by PAS candidate Amzad Hashim with a 40,907-vote majority.

Kemaman was won by PAS’ Che Alias Hamid with a majority of 27,179, defeating Ahmad Said. – January 16, 2023.
