A MARRIED couple have been charged with murder at the Ampang magistrates’ court over an explosion that killed a waiter in Pandan Indah, Ampang, last year.
The couple, Khor Swee Boon, 33, and Ng Hui Yee, 30, nodded their heads as an interpreter read out the charges to them.
No plea was recorded from both the accused with the case will be heard by the High Court.
They are set to appear in the High Court on March 23.
The duo were charged with murder under section 302 of the penal code, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
According to the charge sheet, both the accused were alleged to have murdered 29-year-old Cho Lim Fong at Jing Hoe Mei Restaurant, Jalan Pandan Indah, at 8.55pm on December 29 last year.
Counsel R.S.N. Rayer, representing the defendants, asked the court to allow Ng to be granted bail since she had to care for their two children, aged five and seven.
Both children are now under the care of Ng’s parents.
The prosecution objected, saying there were no grounds for this since murder was a non-bailable offence.
The court decided against allowing the bail for Ng.
Ampang Jaya police chief Mohamad Farouk Eshak last year was reported as saying that a 28-year-old man died after he touched a parcel that exploded on the night of December 29.
The package was placed on his car bonnet, which was parked in front of a restaurant in Pandan Indah. – January 16, 2023.
