9 new Covid deaths, 367 cases

MALAYSIA logged nine Covid-19 deaths for the second straight day yesterday, taking the fatality count since the onset of the pandemic to 36,901. 

There were four coronavirus-linked deaths in Selangor, two each in Kuala Lumpur and Malacca, and one in Johor. 

The Health Ministry reported 367 infections yesterday, marking a fourth day of declining cases, bringing the cumulative count to 5,031,443. 

Selangor logged the highest number of cases with 106, followed by Kuala Lumpur (63), Malacca (39), Sarawak (34), Kedah (17), Penang (16), Johor (15), Negri Sembilan (12), Sabah (12), Kelantan (11), Pahang (10), Perak (10), Putrajaya (10), Terengganu (8), Labuan (3) and Perlis (1).

Active cases dropped to 11,372 after 398 patients recovered from the illness. 

Among the active cases, 10,846 people (95.4%) were in home quarantine and 526 (4.6%) in hospital.

Twenty-four patients were in intensive care, 12 of whom required respiratory assistance. – January 12, 2023.
