Anwar to hold peace talks with Sabah warring parties

THE Sabah political standoff is expected to be sorted today after Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim holds peace talks with the warring parties.

According to The Star, Anwar is to fly to Kota Kinabalu in the evening right after he ends his official visit to Indonesia. He is to meet with GRS, BN and Warisan representatives.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is expected to attend the meeting.

The political situation in Sabah is in turmoil after Umno/Barisan Nasional pulled withdrew support for Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Hajiji Noor, leaving the ruling pact without a majority.

BN and Warisan are planning to form a new state government but until late yesterday, Hajiji insisted he still had the votes of 44 assemblymen.

Hajiji said he had submitted 44 statutory declarations from these representatives, seven of whom were in Pakatan Harapan and five Sabah Umno/BN rebels, to Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin.

At the same time, Sabah Umno BN chairman Bung Mokthar Radin, who is the deputy chief minister, said changes were still possible

On Saturday, Anwar said he would give special attention to developments in Sabah after returning from Jakarta.
