THE Selangor government’s guidelines on camping could be drawn up in about four months, Ng Sze Han said.
The local government, public transport and new village development chairman said that a stakeholders workshop on the guidelines was expected to start a week after Chinese New Year.
“I’m waiting for the workshop to get input from agencies and parties on the camping guidelines,” he told The Malaysian Insight.
He said the workshop would involve the participation of local councils and campsite operators.
“We need to get feedback and input from the participants to see how to come up with it (guidelines).
“We will push for it as soon as possible. It could be (done) in four months.”
Ng added that authorities would do a check on the number of camping sites in Selangor and would determine whether these were in ecologically sensitive areas or were too risky for recreational activities.
Earlier on, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the state would be drafting guidelines in response to the Batang Kali landslide tragedy that occurred last year.
Azizan added that other state governments should emulate Selangor’s move to have standardised requirements.
Campsite operator Asia Camp Sdn Bhd’s owner Azizan Yunus welcomed the move, saying that it should be done quickly.
