BARISAN Nasional is more than capable of resolving the Selangor water crisis as it has experience in dealing with more complex issues, said Prime Minister Najib Razak.

He said the ruling coalition was able to execute the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project, and would be able to achieve more if given the mandate to lead Selangor in the 14th general election.

“When we mention Selangor, what is the issue lately? Water!” he said at the People’s Volunteer Corps’ (Rela) 46th anniversary celebrations in Serdang today.

He said seeing as to how BN was able to build the MRT, which has trains without drivers, resolving water issues will not be a problem.

Without naming anyone, Najib said his opponents only know how to write about things on social media for political mileage without doing anything for the people.

“There were certain (negative) write ups on social media but these people have agendas to gain political power by any means. They did not put up a more constructive agenda.

“Of course they do not have the capability like what has been done by our government,” said Najib.

Earlier this week, Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) issued a statement several areas in the Klang Valley would face water disruption due to waterworks at the Sungai Selangor Phase 3 Water Treatment Plant (SSP3) in Bestari Jaya, Kuala Selangor from Tuesday until yesterday.

However the water recovery period had to be extended after a surge vessel system malfunctioned, triggering an explosion.

The incident caused 427 areas in the Klang Valley including Shah Alam, Klang, Petaling, Gombak, Hulu Selangor and Kuala Langat to be hit with water cuts.

The situation is expected to be rectified by tonight. – March 10, 2018.

  • Adequate water supply for Malaysia is much too important an issue to suffer at the hands of any politician. Indeed it should be treated as a life-and-death matter to warrant the highest consideration from the powers-that-be, & not be politicised. So now it goes without saying that both the Prime Minister & Selangor govt must join hands immediately & work together to speedily resolve any and all outstanding matters which exist about water so that debacles like the current water disruption will not happen again. And while at it please also look into water supply problems elsewhere in the country, & earn the people's undying gratitude! TQ
