THE Pakatan Harapan (PH) presidential council today decided to continue the policy of awarding the post of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman to a representative from the opposition.
Under the policy, the check-and-balance body has brought about positive results for the government, PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil said after the PH presidential council meeting at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya today
There has not yet been discussions with the opposition about the matter.
Fahmi, who is also communications and digital minister, said during the presidential council meeting chaired by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, a proposal to allow the prime minister to answer questions verbally during parliament sessions was discussed.
Meanwhile, PH secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the matter of a specific working relationship between PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) to face six upcoming state elections was not brought up at the meeting.
Instead, on the agenda was general preparation for the state elections, including efforts to form or reactivate the PH election committee.
“Before arriving at the decision-making stage, the election committee will be involved in various preparations to evaluate possible steps that need to be taken.
“Most important is to focus on retaining the three states currently under PH administration, namely, Negri Sembilan, Selangor and Penang,” he said.
According to Saifuddin, PH has a chance to win Kedah and provide a strong opposition voice in Kelantan and Terengganu. – Bernama, January 7, 2023.
