FOREIGN Minister Anifah Aman has vowed to resign his office as well leave Umno if the prime minister reneges on his promise to return Sabah’s special rights.

The Kimanis MP said he was sure that Najib was a man of his word.

“I am confident Barisan Nasional (BN) will still win the elections… but if Najib breaks his promises. I will refuse to be minister; I will not stay another day in Umno,” he said at a carnival in SK Kimanis, in Kimanis, today.

Anifah said he, too, wished to see Sabah’s special rights restored according to the terms of the Malaysian Agreement 1963.

He said this was why he had started the MySabah group and initiated discussions on the MA63 with leaders from both the ruling and opposition camps.

“The prime minister has promised to return state rights, whether the federal government had taken them by accident or not, as well as implement all that was agreed in the MA63…  and I am confident Najib, is a man who does not break his promises.

On the recent return of Sarawak’s oil and gas rights, Anifah said the neighbouring state has its own way of getting back its rights while  Sabah will keep to its diplomatic approach through “dialogue” and “consultation.”

He noted that unlike Sabah, Sarawak was not entitled to 40%  of revenue derived from the state, according to the terms of the MA63.

The Sabah state rights committee and Attorney-General Mohamed Apandi Ali last met on February 9 to discuss the restoration of Sabah’s rights.

Apandi conceded that Sabah might have a case according to Article 112D, which provided for a revision of the state’s special grant of 40% revenue every five years.

Najib has made several promises to restore the special rights of the East Malaysian states, including during last year’s Malaysia Day celebrations in Sabah and Sarawak. – March 10, 2018.

  • What a fake!!! If you have so much of faih and trust in Najib, why not you resign now and until Najib win the election and keep all his promises and only then you rejoin Umno. Why are you playing psychology with Sabahans. Be a conscientious man and take on his dare for the sake of love for Sabah and the people. Stop tickling your own balls and feeling good about it in this no brainer actions.

  • It had heard of giving back the right to Sabah for some times, we can see little/ no progress or any concrete action in the negotiation, if the promised is not kept and the General Election 14 base on trust and is over, your resignation, if happen, will not help in any way after the election. being Sabahan who love the state, , how you advise us to trust the promise?? ( you are not from opposition but in Government in the past five years since Dr Jeffry brought up the Malaysia Agreement)

  • BN has 55 years to return what is rightfully for the Sabahans, why do they have to wait so long until PRU14? I support Warisan to take over Sabah.

  • For example, say Najib passes RUU 355 and Anifah will kill himself maybe that will count.
