AROUND 70% of federal projects can be managed by the Sarawak government without referring to the federal government, according to Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof.
His comments follow Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s address last Wednesday, in which he said any project valued at less than RM50 million could be fully managed by the Sabah and Sarawak governments.
Fadillah said the projects within this valuation include schools, clinics, fire stations and other rural projects, and can be managed by the Sarawak public works department.
He added that the decision is meaningful to Sarawak to speed up development, especially in rural areas.
“This is the position when we can form the government together and our voices are heard, and what’s important is GPS’s role in forming the unity government is recognised,” he said in Sibu tonight.
The deputy prime minister also said that GPS had played a role in ensuring the country’s political stability following the recent general election.
Therefore, he said every GPS component needed to ensure that the unity government would last for five years in the interest of the people of Sarawak.
He said the spirit of unity displayed by all Sarawak folk can be translated into a stable unity government and to develop a united country.
If everyone in the community can play their respective roles in spurring the spirit of unity, he said, it will enable the government to focus on the country’s development, especially from an economic aspect, which would lead to further prosperity. – Bernama, January 6, 2023.
