3 sentenced to death for drug trafficking

THE Shah Alam High Court today sentenced three men to death after finding them guilty of trafficking in a total of 585.1g of drugs into the country four years ago.

Judge Abdul Halim Aman found that C. Peter Yesudas, 55; V. Kasinathan, 43; and K. Nagaraj, 57, had failed to raise reasonable doubts against the charge.

He said their testimony was more of denial and afterthought, and not supported with concrete evidence.

He said they were found to be in direct possession of the drugs in a cowshed, which they had control of.

There was another accused, M. Radakrishnan, 52, but the judge ordered the charge against him to be dropped as the man had died in custody.

The four, together with S. Balaguhan, 50, who is still at large, were jointly charged with trafficking in 432.5g of heroin and 152.6g of monoacetylmorphines in a cowshed in Jalan Bukit Beruntung, Rawang, at about 12.40pm on November 26, 2019.

They were charged under section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for the death sentence upon conviction.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Zuraini Abdul Razak while the accused were represented by lawyer Norman Mohd Nasir. – Bernama, January 4, 2023.
