PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has said that Pakatan Harapan (PH) will meet on January 7 to discuss the six upcoming state elections, including the likelihood of working with Barisan Nasional (BN).

Six states — Selangor, Penang, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu — must hold elections this year.

Saifuddin said the coalition’s presidential council would meet on Saturday for a post-mortem on the recent general election.

“We will (also) discuss preparations for the six state elections, which will be held in less than six months,” Saifuddin told reporters.

He was asked to comment on a possible cooperation between PH and BN in Penang and said the matter would probably be discussed during the coalition’s council meeting.

Yesterday, DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng said Penang PH and BN would most likely cooperate in the state elections.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin, who is the home affairs minister, said the ministry was looking to improve several prisons in Penang, Kedah and Kelantan.

He added that the prisons department needed more manpower and that there were around 1,500 vacancies now. – January 3, 2023.
