THE unity government headed by Anwar Ibrahim should distribute constituency allocations to all MPs equally, said Shahidan Kassim.
Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Arau MP said he was informed that PN lawmakers in Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu did not receive any allocation for their constituencies from the federal government.
“We were elected by the people through the general election, so I don’t see any reason the people should be punished for electing MPs from the opposition, as the presence of opposition is necessary (in parliament) because it is a check and balance.
“The people have been paying taxes to the government all this time, so by punishing them because their MPs are in the opposition is inappropriate,” the former Umno leader was reported as saying today.
PN is the sole opposition pact in parliament after Pakatan Harapan signed a deal to join forces with other coalitions and parties to form the unity government.
Shahidan also claimed that during the PN administration under Muhyiddin Yassin, allocations were distributed to all MPs, including those on the opposition bench. – January 3, 2023.
