THE Penang government will implement the protocol set by the federal government and Health Ministry (MOH) regarding the entry of tourists from China.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state government will comply with the instructions in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“So far, there are no direct flights from China to Penang since they have been stopped after the pandemic hit,” he told reporters in George Town today.

China will reopen its borders on January 8 after being closed for almost three years due to the pandemic.

Today, MOH said it is ready to revise the healthcare policy for the management of Covid-19 at borders, including tightening the standard operating procedures of health checks.

Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said it will be implemented if necessary, not only for visitors (Malaysian citizens and non-citizens) arriving from China but also for those arriving from other countries.

She said MOH takes seriously the concerns of the people regarding the increase in Covid-19 cases in China and the restrictions imposed by several countries on tourists from the republic. – Bernama, January 2, 2023.
