CLAIMS that a volleyball coach slapped two of his teenage female players has enraged Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.

On Twitter, Yeoh said she was getting more information about the incident and had contacted Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek on the matter.

“This is wrong,” said the Segambut lawmaker.

According to a news report, the incident occurred during the 2022 Malaysia Under-14 Volleyball Championship in Johor, where the Malacca coach was seen slapping the players in a match against the host team.

The tournament was held at SJK (C) Pei Hwa, Johor from December 14 to 16.

In a separate post on Twitter, former youth and sports minister Ahmad Faizal Azumu said there is “no room in sports or life for this kind of abusive behaviour”.

“Education, awareness and effective supervision are important to ensure mutual respect between athletes, coaches and administrators,” he said in the tweet. – January 1, 2023.
