480 new Covid cases, 4 deaths

MALAYSIA logged 480 new Covid-19 infections yesterday, bringing the cumulative case tally since the onset of the pandemic to 5.02 million.  

Four deaths were recorded – one each in Johor, Kedah, Malacca and Sarawak – raising the death toll to 36,845. 

Of the new infections, Selangor posted the most with 136, followed by Kuala Lumpur (69) and Sarawak (44). 

Other states and territories reporting new cases were Kedah (35), Perak (34), Penang (32), Pahang (25), Malacca (22), Sabah (18), Kelantan (17), Johor (14), Putrajaya (13), Negri Sembilan (10), Terengganu (9) and Labuan (2). 

Perlis did not register any new cases yesterday.  

Active cases further declined to 12,920 after 957 patients recovered from the illness. 

Among the active cases, 12,213 people were in home quarantine (94.5%) and 707 in hospital (5.5%).  

There were 41 patients in intensive care, 22 of whom required respiratory assistance. – December 29, 2022.
