THE situation in states hit by floods since the end of last month is improving, with only one relief centre still operating in Terengganu.
The Terengganu Disaster Management Committee secretariat said a total of 53 people from 12 families are at the shelter at Kampung La Mosque in Besut since yesterday.
The victims are expected to be at the shelter for a long time as most of them lost their homes in the floods.
Meanwhile, the number of people in Sandakan, Sabah affected by the high tide phenomenon and were being accommodated at the relief centre at SK Sungai Anib 2, is now down to 652 people from 113 families, compared with 688 from 121 families, last night.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department has advised residents in east coast states to remain vigilant even though the flood situation is improving, as continuous heavy rain is still expected to occur. β Bernama, December 29, 2022.
