Active Covid cases down with 423 new infections

ACTIVE Covid-19 cases in Malaysia continued to be on a downward trend as the Health Ministry reported 834 recoveries against 423 new infections yesterday.

The number of active cases now stands at 13,401.

Six coronavirus-related deaths were reported yesterday – two in Perak and one each in Perlis, Johor, Penang and Sarawak – taking the death toll to 36,841.

Of the new infections, Selangor posted the most number of cases, at 131, followed by Kedah (42) and Sarawak (41).

Other states and territories reporting new cases were Kuala Lumpur (37), Malacca (36), Penang (33), Johor (22), Kelantan (18), Negri Sembilan (18), Perak (16), Pahang (10), Sabah (9), Terengganu (5), Putrajaya (4) and Perlis (1).

Labuan did not report any new cases.

Of the active cases, 12,672 people were in home quarantine (94.6%) and 729 in hospital.

There were 43 patients in intensive care, 19 of whom required respiratory assistance. – December 28, 2022.
