WATER supply will be restored in many parts of Selangor by 10pm today, after the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant resumed operations this morning.
Air Selangor said the plant was reopened after it recorded three consecutive readings of zero pollution.
“Cleaning and water treatment processes are estimated to be completed in 12 hours,” it said.
“Clean and safe treated water will then be distributed in stages to consumers in the affected areas,” it said in a statement.
Petaling, Hulu Langat, Sepang, Kuala Langat and Putrajaya are the areas affected by the unscheduled water supply cut, which began at 7am yesterday.
Sungai Semenyih was contaminated after a 20-tonne container lorry carrying perfume oil crashed on the Elite Highway, near Serenia, Negri Sembilan.
Perfume seeped into Sungai Limau Manis, which flows into Sungai Semenyih in Selangor. – December 25, 2022.
