A WATER supply disruption is set to continue today in many parts of Selangor after readings this morning showed traces of pollution at the Jenderam Hilir raw water pump station.
Air Selangor said in a statement this morning that the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant had been cleaned up but contamination was still detected at the Bukit Tampoi facility.
Three consecutive readings of zero pollution are needed before the treatment plants can resume operations, it said.
The Sungai Semenyih and Bukit Tampoi plants were shut down at 2am yesterday due to odour pollution.
Petaling, Hulu Langat, Sepang, Kuala Langat and Putrajaya are the areas affected by the unscheduled water supply cut, which began at 7am yesterday.
Air Selangor said 85 tankers were deployed to supply water to the affected addresses.
It said priority was given to critical premises such as hospitals, clinics, dialysis centres and funeral locations.
The river was contaminated after a 20-tonne container lorry carrying perfume oil crashed on the Elite Highway, near Serenia, Negri Sembilan.
Perfume seeped into Sungai Limau Manis, which flows into Sungai Semenyih in Selangor.
The water outage is affecting thousands of Malaysians celebrating Christmas today. β December 25, 2022.
