More flee floods in Sabah, Perak

THE number of flood victims in Sabah and Perak continued to increase as of 9pm today while the numbers decreased in Terengganu and Kelantan.

IN SABAH, the number of evacuees at SJKC Chung Hwa, Kota Belud rose to 150 from 49 families, from 123 victims from 43 families in the evening.

The number of residents living in coastal areas who were evacuated due to the high tide phenomenon continued to increase to 766 from 177 families tonight, from 706 victims from 162 families in the evening.

A total of 721 victims from 163 families were transferred to six relief centres in Pitas while 45 victims from 14 families were at a centre in Kota Kinabalu.

IN PERAK, the number of flood victims rose slightly to 75 from 19 families tonight, from 69 people from 17 families in the evening.

The Perak Disaster Management Committee secretariat said 62 victims were taking shelter at SMK Abd Rahman Talib in the Hilir Perak district while SK Sungai Tiang Darat in Bagan Datuk accommodated 13 people.

IN TERENGGANU, the flood situation improved and the number of victims placed in relief centres came down to 6,356 tonight from 8,540 in the evening.

The Terengganu Disaster Management Committee secretariat said in a statement that 47 relief centres were operating in seven districts, sheltering 1,065 victims in Kuala Terengganu, Besut (499), Dungun (825), Marang (76), Hulu Terengganu (1,288), Setiu (126) and Kuala Nerus (2,477).

IN KELANTAN, 12,830 flood victims from 4,405 families were still taking refuge, down from 13,262 victims from 4,532 families in the evening.

The Kelantan Disaster Management Committee secretariat said the victims were placed in 29 relief centres in Pasir Mas and Tumpat.

IN SARAWAK, the situation remained unchanged where 1,338 people from 353 families were still placed in 17 relief centres. – Bernama, December 24, 2022.
