A MEMBER of the rescue team at the Batang Kali landslide was rushed to Selayang Hospital today after he collapsed at around 1pm.
In a statement, the Selangor Civil Defence Force (CDF) said Muhammad Faiq Haikhal Mohd Jeffry passed out due to scorching hot weather, as well as from lack of food and dehydration.
“He is a CDF worker from Sabak Bernam. He was rushed to Selayang Hospital for treatment,” CDF said in a statement.
On Monday, Selangor Fire and Rescue department director Norazam Khamis was rushed to Selayang Hospital.
In a statement, the department said he was rushed to hospital for exhaustion and a minor stroke.
“He was taken to hospital at 6pm and is conscious and in stable condition,” it said.
He was discharged on Thursday and immediately went to the site to supervise the search.
The search resumed this morning for the ninth day to find the final victim.
Despite favourable weather yesterday, the operation was suspended at 11pm as a precaution to ensure the safety of rescue personnel involved.
Norazam said today’s operation involved 53 people from the Fire and Rescue Department, Malaysian Armed Forces, CDF, and the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team.
“They are assisted by 10 dogs from the tracker dog unit (K9) and nine excavators and the operation will focus on sector A,” he said.
Today, the rescue team is looking for the remaining victim, believed to be a boy, who is one of the 92 victims involved in the landslide that hit a campsite on December 16.
There are 61 survivors of the tragedy that occurred at 2.42am and has so far claimed 30 lives.
The dead include 12 women, six men, six boys, and six girls. All of them have been identified and their bodies have been claimed by their next of kin. – December 24, 2022.
