THE government’s decision to provide a 30% reduction on assessment taxes will reduce the financial burden borne by Putrajaya residents, especially civil servants, Senator Mohd Hisamudin Yahaya said.

A total of 8,500 buyers of Perumahan Penjawat Awam 1Malaysia (PPA1M) and 1Malaysia Housing Scheme (PR1MA) homes costing RM300,000 or less could now breathe easy following the decision, he added.

“The high costs of living will already be a burden to them so this discount will be greatly appreciated, what more with the looming challenges of the global economy in 2023,” he said in a statement today.

According to Hisamudin, the reduction shows the unity government’s concern towards the plight of Malaysians, especially the M40 and B40 groups in Putrajaya, as previous assessments were higher compared to other areas.

Hisamudin said Putrajaya residents also hoped that the reduction would be maintained for the long term.

“I’m confident this ‘gift’ will boost the spirit of civil servants and Putrajaya residents who are affected by the rising living costs,” he said.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that all residences under RM300,000 in Putrajaya will receive a 30% discount off assessment taxes effective January 1, 2023, till a reassessment is made by Putrajaya Corporation. – Bernama, December 23, 2022.
