Apad revokes licence for haulage company in fatal Gerik crash

Mun Entreprises, the company that owns the lorry involved in a fatal crash in Gerik, has had its haulage licence revoked with immediate effect by the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad).

The agency said in a statement today the action was taken after the company failed in the Road Transport Department’s (RTD) inspection and safety audit session, apart from having previous records of offences involving road user safety.

“Action has been taken under section 57 (1)(b)(x) and section 58 (1)(b) of the Land Public Transport Act 2010,” it said.

In the crash on October 29, a baby was killed after the lorry laden with white ceiling material crashed into other vehicles in the oncoming lane at a bend at KM69 of the East-West Expressway near Gerik.

The lorry driver was reported to have been arrested at a roadblock in Batu Melintang in Jeli, Kelantan, on the same day.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke was also reported as saying that Mun Enterprises’ licence was temporarily suspended and that the RTD and Apad had been instructed to conduct an audit on the company’s fleet. – Bernama, December 23, 2022.
