THE state-level New Year’s Eve celebration to usher in 2023, scheduled for December 31 at Taman Seribu Bunga, has been called off, state tourism, heritage and culture committee chairman Muhammad Jailani Khamis said.

He said the decision was made after taking into account the current floods in several states.

“During this situation, I feel that it is inappropriate for us to hold the New Year’s Eve celebration and this is also in line with the federal government’s decision to cancel the event,” he said at a press conference for the Malacca Flower Festival 2022 at Taman Seribu Bunga today.

Jailani said the state government would instead hold prayers for the safety of Malaysians, especially those in east coast states.

At the same time, he said Malacca was also planning to send aid to help ease the burden and hardship of flood victims in the affected states. – Bernama, December 23, 2022.
