PAKATAN Harapan (PH) must discuss internally on a mechanism to fulfil election promises made by the various parties in the unity government, Ipoh Barat lawmaker M. Kula Segaran said.

He said the PH presidential council must thrash out the issues so that parties in the coalition can understand how the election pledges could be fulfilled.

He also said that this was important so that PH can immediately address how many of its election pledges could be delivered “at the earliest possible time”, Free Malaysia Today reported.

The cabinet earlier decided that a committee headed by the Chief Secretary to the Government Mohd Zuki Ali will look into how the manifestos of the various parties in the government can be translated into a common actionable plan.

Early this week, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli said Putrajaya would select and combine some of the pledges made by the different components of the unity government.

He said negotiations for the selection of the programmes would be guided by the 18 commitments contained in the memorandum of understanding inked by the unity government leaders last Friday.

Among these poverty eradication, provision of fair economic opportunities to the poor, enhancement of the separation of powers between the three branches of government, and safeguards for freedom of assembly and speech.

Johor Umno chief Hasni Mohammad, meanwhile, has been reported as saying that the government should create a framework listing its priorities and come up with a policy action roadmap.

“There are a lot of structural issues that each political party wants to address, but a sense of urgency should guide this,” he said. – December 23, 2022.
