RESCUERS began their search for the last victim of the Batang Kali landslide at 8am today.
The search for victims enters eighth day after the disaster struck around 3am on December 16.
Ninety-two people were at the campsite near Genting Highlands at that time. So far there have been 30 deaths and 61 people were rescued.
Yesterday, four more bodies were found at the landslide area.
Meanwhile, it was reported yesterday that the missing person was a Year 5 pupil from SJKC Mun Choong.
The school’s parent teacher association head U Chin Ong said 26 of 27 people in connection with the school have been confirmed dead at the Father’s Organic Farm campsite.
“There were 26 victims, including six teachers and canteen workers. Other victims were friends or family.
“Everyone who died has been located. The only person still missing is a boy in Year 5. A memorial service would be held for the victims of the landslide, but we have to wait because some families are still making funeral arrangements.
“Because they (canteen workers) are part of this school, we couldn’t ignore them. (Once this finding is done), we will arrange for a memorial ceremony at the school for the teachers and the canteen workers,” she was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times yesterday. – December 23, 2022.
