Batang Kali landslide death toll rises to 30

FOUR more bodies were found today by rescue workers at the Batang Kali landslide site, police said, taking the number of people killed in the disaster to 30.

In a Facebook post, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department said the first of the four bodies was found at 10.39am.

“The team detected the tent along with other personal belongings through excavation works using an excavator before the K9 tracker dogs were sent in to trace the victims and managed to find four bodies in the same tent,” Selangor Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail said.

Three people remain missing.

Six children were among the people found dead.

The search, now into its seventh day, was suspended about 10pm yesterday.

Ninety-four people were at the Father’s Organic Farm campsite, near Genting Highlands, when a landslip struck around 3am on December 16.

Sixty-one people have been rescued. – December 22, 2022.
