THIS is what a government in waiting does, said Pakatan Harapan (PH) secretariat chief Saifuddin Abdullah at the opening of the coalition’s manifesto ahead of the upcoming elections.

“Some will say they are impossible but there are agreements to back them up. BN will say it’s impossible but Penang and Selangor have done it,” said the PKR leader.

“This is a practical manifesto and can be carried out. We don’t promise the moon and the stars, particularly the moon but the promises can be fulfilled,” Saifuddin.

“The making of this manifesto began several months back, starting from discussions with thinkers, professionals, civil societies, former government officers.

“We chose to unveil it today because today is a historic day. It was 10 years ago on March 8 and during the 12th general election when Barisan Nasional and Umno’s influence began eroding.

“The significance of today is made sweeter as it coincides with International Women’s Day,” said Saifuddin.

He said the writing for the manifesto was done by Bersatu strategist Rais Hussin, Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming (DAP), Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin (PKR) and Dzulkifli Ahmad (Bersatu).

He said the manifesto is comprehensive and covers five main sections – reducing the people’s burden and cost of living, reforming institutions and policies, spurring a sustainable economy, giving rights to Sabahans and Sarawakians according to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and creating a moderate and inclusive Malaysia. – March 8, 2018.
