984 new Covid cases, 7 deaths

MALAYSIA logged 984 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, taking the cumulative infections in the country since the onset of the pandemic to 5.02 million. 

Seven coronavirus-linked deaths were registered: two in Selangor and one each in Kedah, Negri Sembilan, Perak, Penang and Kuala Lumpur.

The death toll stood at 36,821. 

Selangor posted the most number of cases with 391, followed by Kuala Lumpur (111) and Sarawak (104). 

Other states and territories reporting new infections were Kedah (50), Malacca (49), Penang (48), Perak (45), Kelantan (36), Sabah (33), Pahang (31), Negri Sembilan (29), Johor (18), Putrajaya (18), Terengganu (12), Perlis (5) and Labuan (4). 

Active cases dropped to 14,854 after 1,534 patients recovered from the illness.

Among the active cases, 13,975 people were in home quarantine (94.1%) and 879 in hospital (5.9%). 

There were 37 patients in intensive care, 22 of whom required respiratory assistance. – December 22, 2022.
