THE National Recovery Council (NRC) chaired by Muhyiddin Yassin has been dissolved, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said.

“We have dissolved the NRC. It is an overlap and the position was created to fulfil the needs at the time,” he said at a press conference after chairing a cabinet meeting today.

The NRC was established on July 21 last year and Muhyiddin was appointed its chair with ministerial status on September 1.

Apart from Muhyiddin, senior ministers, ministers, senior government officials, opposition party representatives, and experts in economic, social and health matters were among those on the council.

The NRC’s main objective was to ensure every National Recovery Plan (NRP) outlined by Putrajaya following the Covid-19 pandemic could be achieved in a safe, orderly and inclusive manner for the well-being of Malaysians.

The council was refining NRP 2.0 to ensure the economy recovers, with a focus on people and sectors most affected by the pandemic, namely, B40 households and small and medium enterprises.

Meanwhile, Anwar said former Machang lawmaker Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub’s appointment as Felcra chairman was postponed and he had informed Umno president and Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who had appointed Jazlan to the position.

Anwar stressed today that he is not completely opposed to government-linked companies being led by politicians.

“I never said that any politician can’t be involved in management (of these companies).

“However, this is subject to terms and they must have qualifications in the related field.

“There may be several political leaders or MPs appointed but we have set that it must be based on their professional capabilities, previous performance, and compliance with rules,” he said. – December 21, 2022.
