THE number of flood evacuees continued to rise today in Terengganu and Kelantan.
In TERENGGANU, the number of evacuees rose to 40,456 this morning compared to 39,311 last night.
They were housed in 299 relief centres in eight districts, according to the State Disaster Management Committee secretariat.
Kemaman has the most number of evacuees at 9,147, followed by Besut (8,536), Hulu Terengganu (5,893), Dungun (4,419), Setiu (4,352), Kuala Nerus (3,597), Kuala Terengganu (2,777) and Marang (1735).
The water stood above the danger level in Sungai Kemaman in Kemaman; Sungai Telemong in Kuala Ping in Hulu Terengganu; and Sungai Nerus in Kampung Langkap in Setiu.
In KELANTAN, the number of evacuees rose overnight to 31,487 compared to 31,313 yesterday. They sought shelter in 140 relief centres in Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah, Kuala Krai, Machang, Pasir Puteh, Kota Baru and Bachok.
In JOHOR, the number of flood evacuees remained at 48 in two relief centres in Segamat.
The evacuees were residents of Kampung Seberang Batu Badak and Kampung Batu 5 Segamat,.
The Irrigation and Drainage Department reported that the water level stood at the warning point of 8.63m in Sungai Muar in Buloh Kasap, Segamat.
In PERAK, the flood situation was unchanged with 54 evacuees still housed in SK Sungai Tiang Darat and Dewan SMK Abd Rahman Talib.
The water remained at a dangerously high level in Sungai Bidor in Changkat Jong.
In PAHANG, 221 remained in three relief centres this morning, compared to 484 people in five shelters the night before.
The water level was still high but receding in Sungai Keratong, Rompin. β Bernama, December 21, 2022.
