ANWAR Ibrahim today filed a defamation suit against Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin over the allegation that the prime minister was paid RM15 million by the Selangor government when he was the state’s economic adviser.
His lawyer Sankara Nair filed the writ of summons at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
Anwar had on December sent a letter of demand to Muhyiddin over the allegation in which the former had asked for a public apology.
The Pagoh MP did not respond to the letter.
Muhyiddin is alleged to have made the claim about Anwar’s exorbitant pay on December 5 on the election campaign oft PN candidate Azman Nasrudin for the Padang Serai parliamentary seat.
Anwar is seeking general, compensatory, aggravated and exemplary damages and an injunction to restrain Muhyiddin from further slander.
He also seeks costs and other relief deemed fit by the court. – December 20, 2022.
