THE Johor government will review the standard operating procedure (SOP) for safety at campsites to prevent any untoward incidents.
Johor Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said his office is currently studying feedback from 16 local authorities, including the Johor Forestry Department and other agencies regarding the SOP for camping activities.
He said approval for camping activities such as in recreational forest areas is under the management of the state Forestry Department, while approval for activities in coastal areas is under other local authorities.
He said this to reporters after officiating at the Publicity and Public Participation Programme of the Sedili Special Area Plan Draft programme in Kota Tinggi today.
Jafni said that although each camp area poses different risks, the state government strives to prioritise safety measures.
Jafni added that the state Forestry Department has taken steps to temporarily close hiking trails and all Taman Eko Rimba to the public from yesterday.
The directive was issued by department director Salim Aman via a notice posted on the department’s official Facebook page. – Bernama, December 18, 2022.
