1,800 people still sheltering from floods


Authorities across the country say there has been a slight increase in the number of people sheltering from floodwaters, with Kelantan still the most affected state. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, December 17, 2022.

THE number of people seeking shelter from floods in Kelantan and Perak has increased, with the Department of Irrigation and Drainage warning of rising water levels nationwide.

In KELANTAN, 1,584 people in Pasir Mas have been placed in six shelters tonight. The Kelantan State disaster management committee secretariat said they were in SK Tok Deh, SK Kedai Tanjong, SK Gual Periok, Masjid Mukim Padang Licin, Putat Tujoh and SK Kubang Kual.

In PERAK, 16 people are taking shelter in SK Sungai Tiang Darat tonight, with Kampung Sungai Belakang, Kampung Sungai Tiang and Kampung Sungai Nipah Darat inundated.

Meanwhile, in JOHOR, the three shelters are still operating in Segamat – Kampung Seberang Batu Badak, Kampung Batu 5 and Kampung Kuala Paya – and are housing 75 people.

All the evacuees are residents of Kampung Seberang Batu Badak, Kampung Batu 5 and Kampung Kuala Paya.

In TERENGGANU, there has been no change with SK Atas Tol in Kuala Terengganu hosting 23 people. – Bernama, December 17, 2022.
