Girl’s body recovered, Batang Kali death toll now 24

THE body of a girl has been recovered by a search and rescue team from the Batang Kali landslide site, raising the death toll from the disaster to 24. Another nine people are still missing.

According to Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, the girl’s body was recovered at 4.05pm.

Based on the campsite owner’s records, there were 94 people registered before the landslide struck.

So far, the authorities have rescued 54 people, including five boys, two girls, four men and 13 women.

Seven people with injuries have been taken to hospital.

“All agencies are trying their best to search and rescue the remaining victims,” he said at the site.

Acryl said the body of the girl, whose age has yet to be determined, was found in the Hillview search area (Sector A).

“The body will be taken to Sungai Buloh Hospital for a post-mortem,”

“As stated previously, once all the victims have been found, investigations will proceed immediately. However, this doesn’t mean there is no investigation going on right now.

“Selangor CID chief Baharudin Mat Taib will head the probe into the landslide,” he said.

The landslide, which occurred at 2.42am yesterday, brought a section of earth measuring almost 300m long and 70m wide crashing onto the campsite. – December 17, 2022.
