NINE Education Ministry counsellors have been placed at the Sungai Buloh Hospital Forensics Department to offer support and psychosocial assistance to the families of victims of the Father’s Organic Farm landslide tragedy in Gohtong Jaya.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the counsellors will be on duty at the hospital until their task at the hospital ends.
“There are three shifts with three counsellors assigned to each shift,” she told reporters after checking on the counsellors at work at the hospital today.
Fadhlina said victims’ families are having a tough time and need to be given space.
“I ask that they are given the space and opportunity from Malaysians to receive psychosocial support, besides prayers that the search and rescue operation goes smoothly,” she said.
The landslide occurred at 2.42am, which resulted in a section of a ravine almost 300m long and 70m high crashing onto the campsite.
As at 2pm today, 10 people are still missing, while 23 have been confirmed dead, out of 94 victims.
The rescue operation resumed at 8am today after the search was suspended at midnight following heavy rain. – Bernama, December 17, 2022.
