DR Mahathir Mohamad has resigned as Pejuang chairman, according to a report by Malaysiakini.
Lando Zawawi, a road safety activist and party candidate for Tanjong Karang in November, confirmed the former Langkawi lawmaker’s decision.
“(It is) true. He told us on Wednesday,” he was quoted as saying by the news portal.
Zawawi said no one knew why the 97-year-old former prime minister had decided to step down.
“We did not ask that. We respect his decision,” he said.
Dr Mahathir’s party was a non-starter in the November polls, with none of its 67 candidates registering enough votes to keep their deposit.
Pejuang’s Gabungan Tanah Air (GTA) partners – Berjasa, Putra and Iman – also suffered a similar fate. – December 16, 2022.
