Landslide caused by slope failure, says Nik Nazmi

THE landslide that killed at least 16 people at a camp site in Batang Kali was due to a slope failure, said Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

According to the minister, based on the data received, there was a slope failure 500m in length, 200m wide and 8m deep.

“The volume is 450,000 cubic metres,” he said at a press conference at the location today.

Nik Nazmi advised the public to be mindful when they go to risky areas during the rainy season.

“We are praying that all the victims will be found as soon as possible,” he said.

As of 1pm today, 16 people are confirmed dead, while a further 61 have been rescued. – December 16, 2022.
