THE authorities have suspended outdoor activities in Batang Kali, near Genting Highlands, Pahang following a landslide that killed 16 people today.
Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced the freeze on activities after visiting the site.
He said that authorities would check if the campsite where the disaster had occurred was licensed.
“We will review their (registration status) later as the priority now is to find the remaining victims,” he said at the site.
Sixteen people are reported dead after a landslide hit the Father’s Organic Farm campsite around 3am today.
One of the deceased was a child.
Selangor infrastructure and agriculture exco Izham Hashim said a forensic probe would be carried out to determine the cause of the landslip.
“There were no signs of an impending landslide as it had not rained heavily in the area for the past two days.
“There were no warning (signs), no cracks or fallen trees,” he said, adding the slope was considered safe. – December 16, 2022.
